VOCABULARY. MONEY
budget
a sum of money available for a particular purpose. [presupuesto]
e.g. His company has an annual budget of €12 million.
charge
the amount of money sb asks for services or goods. [cargo]
e.g. The new exhibition does not charge for admission.
deposit
sth, like money, that is entrusted for safekeeping, as in a bank. A partial or initial payment of a cost or debt.
e.g. I need a new washing machine so I have left a deposit for it.
donation
act of giving in common with others for a common purpose such as a charity in order to help them.
e.g. Pierre made a donation to Doctors Without Borders.
fare
the money that you pay for a trip by bus, train, taxi, plane, etc. [tarifa]
e.g. I'm collecting money to pay the train fares for the next weekend.
fees
an amount of money you pay for a particular piece of work or for a particular advice or service. [honorario]
e.g. Mireia could pay university fees until October.
fine
a sum of money required to be paid as a penalty for an offense or for breaking a law or a rule. [multa]
e.g. The police got me a fine for driving too fast.
grant
an amount of money given especially by the government, or another organization, to be used for a special purpose. Also, scholarship. [subvención, beca]
e.g. James received a grant to finish his degree.
instalment
one of a number of successive payments that are paid regularly until sth has been paid for. [mensualidad; plazo]
e.g. Are you agree to pay for the motorbike by/in instalments?
loan
a sum of money lent at interest that sb borrows. [préstamo]
e.g. The bank will loan me the money I asked to pay my holidays.
lump sum
an amount of money that is paid at one time and not on separate occasions. One-off payment. [pago único]
e.g. Would you like payment in a lump sum, or spread out across regular intervals?
overdraft
an amount of money that a customer with a bank account is temporarily allowed to owe to the bank when he have spent more than is in his bank account. [descubierto; saldo deudor]
e.g. The bank offered her an overdraft facility.
savings
money that sb keeps in the bank and doesn't spend.
e.g. I've just open a bank account for my savings.
will
a legal document that says what is to happen to sb's property and money after they die. [testamento; última voluntad]
e.g. My grandfather willed his stamp collection to my uncle.
