IDIOMS WITH DOG


Every dog has its day!                                     = even a person with ill luck will be lucky one day
His bark is worse than his bite                        = to not back up threatening comments with action
Let sleeping dogs lie                                      = some problems are best not investigated
To argue like cat and dog                              = to be in total disagreement
To bark up the wrong tree                             = to be looking the wrong place
To be as sick as a dog                                   = really sick
To be dog-eat-dog                                          = a hyper competitive environment
To be in the doghouse                                   = to be in line for trouble
To be top dog                                                  = to be the leader / decision maker
To go to the dogs                                           = to deteriorate, to get worse
To live a dog's life                                        = the worst life
To rain cats and dogs                                   = to rain extremely hard
To work like a dog                                        = work extremely hard
You can't teach an old dog new tricks        = a person used to doing things one way likely won't change
